CBD is an abbreviation that may sound like chemistry but has little to do with it. The abbreviation stands for cannabidiol - a natural product of the Cannabis plant. It is mainly derived from hemp, the same as the better-known THC. Both are cannabinoids. The terms might appear very similar in some cases - which can be confusing for beginners.

CBD is not intoxicating

As an essential component of the hemp plant, cannabidiol acts, in contrast to THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), with no intoxicating effect at all. Instead, it can have a positive effect on our physical well-being. In addition, due to its versatility, hemp has been cultivated as a useful plant for more than 10,000 years and is valued worldwide.

CBD might relax you

CBD is said to have a relaxing effect. The active ingredient is also experiencing real hype in the cosmetics industry due to its skin-friendly effect. Oils, bath bombs, body lotions and creams - CBD cosmetics can have various fields of application.

But what is it that makes CBD so versatile? The secret lies in its special effect on many different areas of our nervous system.

The holistic effects of CBD

The receptors for cannabinoids are located in the cells of our nervous system and together they form the endocannabinoid system. These receptors, in simple terms, are the ends of our nerve cells. They are able to receive stimuli from outside and convert them into signalling processes of excitation in your body. Thus, the endocannabinoid system has a direct influence on many of our body functions.

Within this system, CBD binds to the so-called CB1 and CB2 receptors. The cannabinoids from the plant are so similar to your body's endocannabinoids, that they can interact with each other. This explains why CBD is used for so many different reasons.

Different types of CBD

In our Berlin manufacture, we use both: CBD isolates and full-spectrum hemp leaf extracts. What does this mean? A pure isolate is filtered separately from the other hemp components. This extract consists of roundabout 99.99% cannabidiol and doesn't have any traces of THC or other cannabinoids.

While isolates are completely free of THC, a full-spectrum oil can have a small amount of it. But don't worry - the legally allowed amount of under 0,2% won't have any psychoactive effects on you. A full-spectrum CBD oil also contains other valuable ingredients of the cannabis plant, such as terpenes, bitter substances and flavonoids. As a result, you can benefit from the so-called entourage effect, which ensures an emphasized effect thanks to the combination of the individual substances.

As a carrier oil, we only use pure organic oils such as pumpkin seed, MCT coconut or milk thistle oil.

How do I apply CBD oil?

CBD oil enters the bloodstream through the oral mucosa. Put the oil under your tongue and leave it there for about 30-60 seconds. In the beginning, it is recommended to start with an amount of 1-2 pumps in the morning as well as in the evening. Watch your body carefully and increase only if needed.

The recommended maximum of the daily amount of 3x3 pumps should not be exceeded. For newcomers, a product with a low CBD concentration is suitable while those who are more experienced and know that they need stronger oil tending to use a concentration of up to20%. Everything is above it is medicamentation and needs a prescription.

How fast does CBD affect your body?

Since every organism is unique, the effect sets in at different periods. The application form, however, decisively determines the absorption time.

When applied externally through your skin (e.g. through creams), it can take between 20 minutes and 2 hours until the substance is completely absorbed by your blood.

On the other hand, when vaporizing, the first effects are often immediately noticeable, since the CBD directly enters your bloodstream via the pulmonary alveoli.

The effect of a CBD oil starts after about 15 minutes when you place it under your tongue. The absorption through the oral mucosa is responsible for the quick effect.

For how long does CBD work?

And here again: many individual factors determine the duration of the effect. Depending on:

• the amount
• bioavailability
• and usage form

of the cannabidiol as well as the individual factors, the active substance remains in the body for several hours. On average, the effect lasts about 4 to 6 hours.

However, if CBD enters the circulation quickly (e.g. using vaporization or as oil), it also lasts shorter. If it is absorbed more slowly (e.g. through your skin), the effect lasts longer.

Is CBD legal?

Yes, because CBD is only extracted from commercial hemp plants that contain less than 0.2% THC. CBD is legal in Germany for anyone who is at least 18 years old.

What should I pay attention to when buying?

Firstly, choose a manufacturer you can trust. Make sure that the CBD content is indicated on the products. The carrier oil should consist of high-quality organic oils out of sustainable agriculture. Special quality products can also be recognised by various analysis certificates and quality seals.

Is CBD oil suitable for animals?

Since animals also possess an endocannabinoid system, the administration of CBD is also possible here. However, pet owners should make sure that they only use products that have been specially manufactured for animals.

Dogs have a higher concentration of receptors in the brain than other living creatures. This makes them very susceptible to cannabinoids. Cats can't handle the for humans produced oils at all!

Terpenes and THC, on the other hand, are completely unsuitable for dogs and cats. That is why there are special products for animals with lower doses.
