CBD & Hemp Dictionary | 18.10.2022

Aloe vera has been known as a "medicinal plant" for more than 6000 years. It is not really surprising that it has this reputation, because it offers us humans a multitude of positive properties. The special thing about it is that it can store an enormous amount of moisture and nutrients in its leaves. These are found in the famous gel that becomes visible when the leaves are cut open. Nowadays, aloe vera is known as a real all-rounder. Maybe you have heard that some people recommend the gel for skin irritations like sunburn and pimples? Many also swear by aloe vera hair masks since the moisturizing gel is said to provide a well-groomed shine and healthy hair. However, aloe vera can not only be used externally, but can also be taken in the form of tablets or drops. Find out what else is behind the aloe vera plant in this blog article.

Aloe Vera explained

Aloe vera is a plant species from the genus of the so-called aloes in the subfamily of the asphodel family. The plant grows stemless or with short stems. The stem of the plant can reach a circumference of up to 30 centimeters. The leaves are arranged rosette-like. On the edges of the smooth leaf surface there are firm pale teeth, which give the aloe vera its distinctive appearance. The greatest benefit we derive from the plant is its gel, which is found inside the plant. Why is this gel so unique, you ask? Quite simple: it contains an extraordinary combination of active ingredients. Today, more than 200 ingredients have been discovered in the juice of the aloe vera, including minerals, amino acids, trace elements, secondary plant substances as well as simple and multiple sugars. Of course, it is best to use the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf. However, aloe vera gel is of course also available as a ready-made product. The gel forms a protective film on the skin. If it has been stored in the fridge beforehand, it can leave a cooling and soothing sensation on the skin. It is not for nothing that aloe vera is often a component of apres-sun care products.

However, as we all know, beauty does not only come from the outside, but also from the inside. You can enjoy aloe vera in the form of pure aloe vera juices or take it in the form of supplements. Of course, it is extremely important to pay attention to the high quality of the products. The addition of low-quality ingredients can ultimately harm the body rather than support it in a positive way.

CBD & Aloe Vera

Aloe vera & CBD are often found as a duo in cosmetic products. This combination also makes perfect sense, as both ingredients serve as optimal moisturizers - so unbeatable in combination. A silky-soft skin feeling and a natural glow on the skin is guaranteed with this dream duo! With its antioxidant effect, CBD also has a calming effect - just as many users say aloe vera does.

History of Aloe Vera

The first records of the aloe vera plant were found on a shard from a Babylonian clay tablet - so they go back over 6000 years. On this artifact, the "healing powers" of the plant, which were well known in the Sumerian culture, were reported for the first time. In this context, reference was made above all to the aloe vera gel of the leaves and the valuable aloe vera juice. According to the Babylonians' understanding at that time, the human body was occupied by demons when sick. According to their spiritual understanding, only the juice of the "divine" aloe vera could bring back the possessed. Aloe vera was also revered by the ancient Egyptians; they called it the "plant of immortality". It is known from ancient writings that Nefertiti and Cleopatra also used the benefits of aloe vera juice for their beauty rituals. Other famous personalities also knew about the positive properties of aloe vera. Already the Greek physician and natural healer Hippocrates recognised the potential of the plant. Aristotle was also convinced of its properties and even recommended that Alexander the Great should make use of the plant to treat wounds in his army during war. So as we now know, the positive benefits of aloe vera have been known for thousands of years. However, in our society, the plant has only been hyped for a few years. Similar to CBD, it sometimes feels as if people thousands of years ago had more knowledge about the power of plants than we do today.

Good to know about Aloe Vera

The cool thing about the aloe vera plant is that it is relatively easy to care for so you can easily get one for your own home. Not only does the plant look great in the living room, but you don't have to buy "pure" aloe vera gels that have been enriched with other ingredients any longer. This way, you not only save money in the long run, but also offer your skin the 100% power of nature - without any additives. But be careful: it is mostly too cold for the aloe vera plant to grow outdoors. Since it consists of 99% water, it literally freezes to death in the cold. Inside your home, however, it grows and thrives perfectly.
